light rattle
I have a 95' F-150 with a stock 4.9l I-6 and every once in a while it makes a noise like a small, very light piece of metal rattling inside a pop can. Is this normal? Besides that it runs GREAT! Best engine ever! Thanks

i've had and still have that same sound and cant fingure it out. best thing to do is get under the truck and look for loose panels, heat shields, etc...start by lightly banging on different areas to zero in on the location.

I got a I6 and the thing rattles. I think its the cam with the lifters. These engines dont like to be reved past 3400, where the horsepower ends. At 165hp who would rev it higher anyways? the torque band is 1300-2400 at 2000 being its best torque at 265. These engines can and will rev out to 5700 RPM no problem but the cam and lifters soon fail! Hey anyone know if this thing has roller lifters, if not your regular lifters are worn out, just keep running synthetic in it and thats all you can do. unless you blow a head gasket and you got it apart might as well get it done anyways. Another thing you can do is run an additive called engine quiet or engine medic, something in those lines. Run it for the 5000KM oil life, drain it, add fresh synthetic with it again, should loosen that lifter up and stop the noise.

hydrolic lifters, best thing to do it pull the upper intake, valve cover, side cover and take out a pushrod and take a lifter out and inspect it...they're realitivly cheap ($45-50 for a set @ NAPA) and dont take to long to swap...but id try looking for the rattle around the exhaust and such first...
also, what RPM or road speed does it rattle? u can also get a mechanics stethiscope and lissen for the rattle or even a long extension...
