Can anyone tell me how to get the oil pan off without removing the engine on an F250
As far as I know you cannot. The engine has to come out. I was able to loosen it on my '91 to replace the gasket. I had to unbolt the mounts and crank the engine up against the bell housing banging on the underside of the cab. Then remove the oil pan bolts and the pan came down a couple of inches which provided enough room to change the gasket. But there was no way the pan was going to come out of there. The engine must be removed.
What is your ultimate goal, Skinny? If the oil pan has to come ALL the way off, I doubt it will happen without a sawzall or a blue flame wrench (torch) unless you remove the engine. Like Kwikk said, you can probably jack your engine around enough to replace the gasket, and I was even able to change out the oil pump on my '86 F-150 300 CI without removing the engine. Guess it just depends on what you are wanting to do and how badly you are wanting to do it.........
Just a note - that's one annoying 7.3 trait that I'm pretty sure they fixed on the 6.0 (hey, at least they got *something* right from the get-go on the 6.0!) I haven't done it myself, but visually it looks like it would slide right out of there without moving the engine a bit.
NOTE: if you own a 7.3 you better keep an eye on rust bubbling on your oil pan, because if it rusts through, you're going to become real familiar with this remove-engine-to-pull-pan problem!
not sure what year truck or engine you have in it,but on my 92 f-250 with the 7.3 IDI,i got the pan out by jacking the engine up against the cab then dropping the pan.then you have to unbolt the oil pickup and let it sit in the bottom of the pan while you snake the the pan out.then reverse the procedure.its not fun but it works.
