im having battery electrical problems. HELP!
Ok,I have a 1987 ford bronco II 2.9l v6 and when i was driving home last night and my radio shut completely off and the battery light flashed on then off and the radio came back on at one point. I drove a few more miles and the same thing happened but this time the radio stayed off and the red battery light stayed on like the battery wasnt charging. I tried to turn my brights on but they would not go on, all that would happen was the lights would shut off completely like there wasnt enough juice to power them. It sounds to me like the alternator is not working properly, but the wierd thing was that when the radio shut off and the red battery light came on all of my instrumentation lights that were illuminated and the dome lights became incredibly powerful and bright, like the alternator was working better than before. it is so strange, and then when i stop the car and let it idle and it seems ok, the batt. light goes off, the radio comes back on and the power goes back to normal on everything.....until i step on the gas and rev the engine. That all happened last night and i made it home, but i have not attempted to start the car this morning and i really hope it starts because i have to go to work. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? both my father and me are stumped on this one. Also i have subwoofers and an amp that runs off of the battery if that would help at all, and when i unhooked the amp from the battery, the car ran the same horribly red light and no radio way. HELP! PLEASE?!
Reminds me of a neighbor who years ago had a car that the fuel pump would quit when he turned on the windshield wipers. Made it a bear to drive home in the rain. Turned out to be a bad ingnition switch.
What I'm thinking is a fuseable link has blown as your headlights aren't working. But that may not be it as your radio comes off the ignition switch and your headlights do not.
Good luck, let us know what you find.
Bill
Good luck!
