Solutions to E4OD Shift Trouble
I've been reading the posts for a while on how to combat the problem of hard shifting in vehicles having an E4OD transmission. I selected two things to try on my vehicle, a '93 F150 4X4 5.8l. Heres what worked for me:
1. I replaced the Manual Lever Position Sensor Ford p/n FSTZ7A247AA. All the auto part stores didn't have a clue what a MLPS was so I called the dealer, he said that the sensor is formerly known as a Neutral Safety Switch. As soon as I said that to the parts store people I was able to track down a part. NAPA sells then for $40.00.
2. I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission additive. I reviewed some posts that said that the additive didn't work and some that did. So I decided to give it a try.
I don't know if it was one or both of the things that worked but I do know that I have a sweet shifting tranny once again.
