Hi, this is my first of probably many posts. YOu have a great forum here.
I bought an '89 B2 EB a few weeks ago from a friend of the family for $500. It has 135k on it. It needed a muffler and a gas tank. Those now having been replaced, I am looking to spend my money in other places, maybe fixing the rust? I have replaced the stereo system completely already. I was thinking of purchasing a K&N filter. Is this filter worth the $50 from my local Pep Boys? I am a poor college student and need to make sure it is worth the money. What kind of improvements will I see in the 2.9? Is $50 a good price, or do you know of other places [websites?] where it is more affordable? I'm looking forward to owning this truck, it being my personal first Ford. I have always bled blue, just never could find a Ford in my price range. [My last car [read first] was my Great grandmother's old Buick]. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Anything else I should be looking for?
No, it is not worth the money. What is worth the money is replacing it with a conical K&N tube type air filter. If you search YAHOO on Bronco II you will eventually pull up the BII board that has the post about swapping out the Ford air box.
What kind of performance increase do you get w/ this upgrade? I realize it is a truck and it isn't designed to go fast but I'd like it to be just a tad quicker, you all have that bug, right?
If you're looking for speed, B II's are not the way to go. I put a K&N filter, hi-po Accel coil, hot Bosch plugs, and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust to a Flowmaster muffler and saw very little, if any, performance gain. $500 bucks down the drain and then the tranny let go. Better go get an 80's 5.0 Mustang if you need some speed cheap...
