exhaust tips???

Do different tip diameters and lengths REALLY make a difference in tone? If so how?

Yes they do.

The bigger the deeper...the smaller the more...poppy it is and not as deep IMO.

It makes the sound resonate more, I believe. Get some 4x18" tips and it will sound completely different than a 3x5"

what size turndown tips do you recommend? If there are different sized ones, which I would think there are.

OK, what is a nice size for our 4.2L.

Size for duals with 2.25 inlets and single with 2.5 inlet?

How about a 2.5 in x 3.5 out x 20 in. long tip for a single 2.5 inch exhaust? Will this also have a negative impact on power or torque?

I think I have settled on a Magnaflow SI/SO muffler. I have read and heard way too many things about how poorly the flowmaster mufflers flow.

Watcha think?

Let's clarify this for a second. Tips aren't going to affect your torque...they just make your truck rumble more. A turn down doesn't have different sized tips...it's just a 2.5" pipe that is turned down right after the muffler. It make a rumble sound because it shoots the exhaust downward into the ground which echoes back...I think. Tips for normal exhaust or duals or whatever can be many different sizes. Like I said...the bigger the tip (to an extent) the more rumble you will get...the smaller the tip, the more poppy it will sound. To me...bigger is better from that aspect.

Flowmasters flow just fine...better than stock anyways. The Flowtech Warlock flows better than the Flowmaster 40 series in my opinion because it's pretty much like having straight pipes.

Yea I have heard about the Warlocks and how you can uncap them and it is basically just like straight pipe, but what is the point in going out and buying a 70 dollar muffler or two of them for 140 when you could just run straight pipe??

If I wanted to run a regular chrome tip at the end of the stock pipe that comes oudda the back behind the right rear tire, what would you recommend? I mainly just want that tip on there to make it look better, I could just slide a tip over the stocker couldn't I.

no you cannot just slide it over the stock piping. Just look around and buy a 3-4 inch tip, I like the tips with the rolled in edges-it looks real nice. You would have to get the 3-4 inches cut off the end of your stock exhaust and have someone weld or clamp the tip on (depending on which type of tip you get). get me?

TO PASS INSPECTION! Texas will grill you hard if you have no mufflers...I'd never see an inspection sticker and they pull ya over for that all the time.

Well I live in good old Indiana, where the state population is probably about the size of Houston.. (not really but just putting things into perspective).. And they don't give a hoot what you do with your exhaust either way..Straight pipes off the headers are more common than not where I live..

I wish that's how it was here. Texas inspection is like going through airport security on a busy afternoon.

Yea I live in Texas too and I have a flowmaster muffler that i cut the pipes off and they were giving me hell about that but I still managed to get the inspection sticker. Ahhh the little sacrifices you have to make to live in such a great state.
