1997 Expy Steering Gear
Has anyone heard of or had any trouble with the steering gear? The steering is a little loose and I have changed the tie rods, had alignment done and it is still loose? Any help or suggestions would be great.

The shaft has a slip yoke.....basically one piece of the shaft fits inside the other. If it's worn you'll be able to turn the one piece of the shaft a bit without the other one turning.
The alignment shop should have checked everything for looseness before they did the alignment though.

Thanks Racer Guy I'll take a look in the am and I'll let you know how it goes. When I got the alignment the guy at Big O had a cast on his arm and I watched him adjust the toe and camber and he never inspected anyhting else and after he was done making adjustments he set the Expy down and gave me the keys and I drove off. After I paid of course! Thanks again for the advise have a good one!!

I wiggled the shaft and it looks like that there is a cone shaped item at the end of the steering shaft and it when I wiggled it, it rattled inside the cone and it was loose ud and down and in and out, so I am going to assume that is what I need to repair.
