What tranny?
Shifters affix to manual tranny's in a couple of different ways.
The ZF uses a shift tower and internal linkage, as do others.
Old style like toploader use a side-mounted external linkage.
Auto's use a cable and you plop the shifter where you can within the range and requirements of the cable.
