Has anyone else ever had this problem before, When and changed my oil the other day. Put in semi synthetic oil for trucks over 120k. the next morning I went to start the truck and to my surprise it started to blow blue smoke. Now it didn't last that long about 2 minutes. Today it blew blue but not as much not as long. Does this mean I am getting worried for nothing?? I remember reading a long time ago about using it and the best every one found was full synthetic Mobil 1. I just thought since this guy has just over 200k it might do it good???? It doesn't blow blue any other time also.
Basically, it acts thinner and can get by gaskets/rings regular oil can not. When you buy an extended FORD used truck warranty, one of the clauses voids the warranty if you use synthetic oil. Also, it may loosen sludge that normal oil would not.
This is my take on the situation. It has run fine for 200K with regular oil. Why fix something that is not broken or cause a problem that does not exist?
No matter what kind of oil you add, getting another 100K on top of 200K is unlikely so the extra expense of syn. oil has no payback potential.
100K miles with est. prices. Mobil1 here is close to $6 a quart.
oil
(6x$1.00) x 30 times = $180
syn. oil
(6x $4.00) x 30 = $720
That $540 difference would go a long way towards a rebuilt engine.
