Emissions Failure

1986 2.9L fails emissions at Idle runs fine at higher RPM. The emision test sheet shows idle speed at 1500 rpm.

CO reads as 4.06 limit is 1.5 at idle
0.85 limit is 1.5 at 2500 rpm

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Emissions Failure

A couple of years ago, my '87 failed emissions. After the test I remembered that the air filter needed changing (the deer hunt the previous year was really dry and dusty. roads covered in 1 inch thick fine dust). Changed the air filter and that fixed it. If your air filter is clogged, it may be a cheap way to fix it. A full tune up would help, too if it's due. Otherwise you may need a good engine analysis to tell what's going wrong.

Suggest you contact the guys at Recarbco Carburetors. Their website is www.recarbco.com Be sure to spell it right or you won't get there. Just go to their website and folow the contact directions. They give a lot of free advice on emissions stuff, and I know they can probably at least help you out a bit. I bet they know the answer!
