I have a 97 explorer, and I just got new front brakes installed about 2 months ago. Just last week the brakes seemed fine, but starting yesterday, I've needed to apply a lot more pressure to the brakes just to stop. I was wondering if anyone knows what could be the problem. Also, is there such a procedure as tightening the brakes? I don't really know much about cars, so I would appreciate any help. Thanks
I have an idea or two but instead of telling you to check something or, it's probably nothing; have it checked out. It's worth feeling safe while you drive.
Check your paperwork for a warranty period. Two months isn't a very long time. If you don't have confidence in your shop, get a second opinion.
Brakes are self adjusting. If there's a problem there, you should notice more pedal travel.
What worries me is the sudden change. It's dramatic enough to justify having a trained pair of eyes look at it.
