Mercron or Mercron V
Im a bit confused here. I just picked up a FTVB for my 4R100. I know the 4R100 has Merc V in it but I've read that your supposed to use plane Merc with the FTVB. Does anyone know the answer?

Mercon for our trannies, be it the FTVB or not. I just put in my FTVB about a month ago, couldn't find synthetic Mercon anywhere. Just make sure you use plain ole Mercon only.

I hope I haven't made a major blunder. When I changed fluid at 30000, I used amsoil synthetic atf, so far no troubles at 42000.

grey2002, you should be okay, I don't think any of the amsoil is Mercon V rated, although I might be wrong.
The dealers aren't reading the TSBs and are putting Mercon V in, supposedly people aren't getting more than 10k out of them after that.

i changed my fluid and filter about 6 months ago, and i just went what was on the tranny dipstick, it said to use mercon, so i went and bought some pennziol mercon/dexronIII stuff and put it in. everything seems good, shifting is fine.

Yea in my 2002 owners manual is says Mercon (can say Dextron III too), and DO NOT USE Mercon V, or even mix the two together. I've heard all kinds of stuff - but I'm sticking with what it says is my book!

I stand corrected. For some reason I was under the impression there was Merc V in a 4R100 but have I have since done my homework. Straight Merc is it.
