Alarm/Remote Start Problems!!!

Ok i am installing a remote start alarm in my 99 f-250 and i cant seem to get the parking lights to flash or the door locks to work iv tried hooking to the brown wire at the headlight switch but that doesnt work is there another wire somewhere else. And with the power locks ive tried everything ive tried relays but i think i did it wrong my diagram was crappy. does anyone have a digram of hopw the relays go. Also what time of door lock system does our trucks have. Mine was not originally equipped with keyless entry if that makes a difference to what type of locks they are. Any help would be nice also do i need relays mayber for the parking lights?

Thanks,
Cameron

i had the same set up. here is what i found to be the problem. i made the mistake of going to my local parts house and buying 3 relays, these are single pole relays and the alarm system needs double pole relays. on the single pole relay it has 2 number 87 terminals which i found to be a dirrect short to ground following the provided wiring diagram. go to any alarm/stereo shop and get the double pole relays they were like 3 dollars a piece. the wires for the power locks are under the dash and are a pain to get too. the wire colors are pink, pink/yellow, & pink/green. also the brown wire is the correct wire to tie into. again it needs the double pole relay there also. hope this helps a little, good luck. oh yea Ford also sells the same relays for about $7.00 a piece and you could always get them there....

door lock

OK Guys, I sure hope someone can help me. I just got my Remote starter all in. It works great except for the door unlock/lock. I followed all the directions, however when i tap into the pink/green or pink/yellow i blow all my fuses. These 2 wires have 12 volts + when lock or unlock is hit on the door switch, however if i jumper 12 volts to them i get nothing. Is there a set of relays somewhere that i am missing ? They appear to be at ground when the door lock is in "nuetral" position.

I tried the relays, but blow the fuses. BTW Its a 04 SD. It did not come with key fobs or anything fancy. Could it have a remote key sensor somewhere ?

Here is some info that might help with the door lock issues.

Determining Door Lock Types:
http://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/doorlocks.asp

SD's without keyless entry have a 5 wire reverse polarity system:

I edited the above post and unfortunately whenever I do that the link that edit gets a little screwy. Here are the links again.

OK, I think.....So I need to use the reverse polarity.... It appears by that concept i need to pull the doors all apart to do this. Do I need to get to the actual actuaters on both doors ?

It sounds to me a $100 at the local install shop would have been easier and they warranty the work. Not to mention if you tap the wrong wire boy look out you could fry something or pop the airbag...Just my opinion. You should never have to take the doors apart to put in a alarm-remote starter. It can all be done on the wiring under the dash and or kick panels.

Dear God No, don't take apart the door panels. Wire two relays as described in the Actuators/Reverse Polarity diagram from the12volt.com. Where it shows the wires "to actuators" use the pink/yellow wire for lock and the pink/lt. green wire for unlock. These wires go to the actuators and can be found in either kick panel. I would use the drivers side kick panel simply because it will probably be easier to tie into a +12volt constant and ground source for the relays. Taking off the door panels is not fun and luckily in this case, not neccessary. Use the diagram (Actuators/Reverse Polarity) in the second link of my second post.

Honestly, was that helpfull? He is obviously most of the way through the install and your going to tell him he should've gone to a shop. He's probably already at wits end. We post questions on here to get help not to be told we're fools for trying. Let's just give the guy a helping hand if we can.

Lock

Thanks Guys. As for having it installed...well i thought about it, but being I install Radios, Barlights, Strobes and what ever else a police car or Fire truck needs I figured I could manage this. I have done alot of them, but none that had this problem in the door locks.

I'll pull the kick panel back off and try hooking up the stuff there. thanks for all the help. I wish I had done this when I bought it but dollars just weren't in the budget at the time.

It was just a suggestion.Alot of people dont relize how cheap it is to have it done.Hell i work in a bodyshop and deal with this crap every day and i still dont do my own remote starters and alarms. So all i was doing was making a suggestion to him.If you dont like my comment oh well.I dont care. And for me telling him he is fool never said that and i wasnt calling him that. You have to remember alot of people dont relize you can tap the wrong wire and send a air bag off or fry a relay or and it goes on and on.Oh yeh and yes i think it was helpful i did tell him that he does not have to take the doors apart and that all the wiring was done under the dash and in the kick panels.

Locks

OK Guys. Thanks and Thanks. I just got in and now have a working Starter and can even lock and unlock the doors. I did some more testing when I got back out to the garage and found out that it does use the 5 wire system, but not the reverse polarity. I'll try to get a diagram put together for any one else who might need it.

Now that its snowing like crazy, it will be nice to get up in the morning and just hit the button. The only drawback to the system is now I have to install one in the wifes Jeep Liberty..... Let the fun begin.

I also have 2 new ford lock/unlock buttons if anyone wants them. Just email me and I'll ship them out to you.

Well guess I can't put my email here...just PM me.

Thanks again
Jeff

I'm sorry I didn't give you the right answer. I'll make sure I note that they may not be reverse polarity on my DEI wiring sheet for the SD's. But I'm glad you got it working. I know how frustrating that can be. Hopefully your wife's Jeep won't be as difficult.
