I have a van that I have enjoyed for many years and miles, now it needs some help in the fuel economy department. I came here to learn all I can about the FYA 1-V feedback carburetor, with throttle position sensor and computer. I really don't understand how the tps and computer controls the carburetor. It used to get super mpg, now it is getting worse every day. It starts, runs smoothe and great, but I smell gas when I shut down for about 5 minutes, with no visable leaks. It shows no engine codes on the scanner is why I want to learn about how the feedback carburetor works. It uses one quart of oil per 3k oil change and most of that is leaks.
I went to my local dealer and they told me the van was too old, not suposed to last 300 k and I am on my own, so I came here before I try to install fuel injection. I plan to put at least 200k more on it before I die or can't function any longer, yes I am an old coot. Thanks for any feedback. Bugzy
I used:
1977 Duraspark OEM distributor
1977 Coil for external resistor.
71-74 Replacement carb.
Ignition timing set to 10°BTDC
To use the 77 coil the resistor bypass wire must be removed. Or you can use the stock TFI E-coil as is.
The throttle lever must have a mounting fabricated at the proper radius from the shaft for the TV cable mount. The radius for the TV cable must be very precise to make the transmission function properly.
