2000 EXPY Pitman Seal
Has anyone replaced just the Pitman shaft seal in the steering box?? Both Dealer & Repair shop want to swap out the steering Box (Not Good $$$ plus posts on here about steering sensativity hate to get bad box), Seal Kit is like $15 Looks not fun, but beats $350.Also, area looks all oily, but fluid level holding its own, may just live with it!
Any hints??

I usually do the box. These things fail all the time, and it's the same box in the bigger trucks (but sometimes a different response ratio - more responsive on SUVs). I think the trouble with doing just the seal is that it id very difficult to get it to come apart like you want it, and you have to press it in just right or it will leak.
If it isn't gushing out, just a little weep, I'd leave it. You might just make it worse by fiddling with it. Getting the pitman arm off the box is a bugger unless you've got a torch.
