Okay, I've been working on this truck for a while, had the engine rebuilt, all new sensors, hoses, yadda yadda. Any how, I finally got it started and running okay, a little 'hunting' at idle, and the high pressure pump(external one) decides to start screaming. So, I go to Autozone and get a new one, install it and turn the key...just cranks and cranks...any thoughts? Also I have a question...is that pump supposed to constantly run? I have a 351W in my work van and I can heard the external pump turn on for a few seconds when I turn the key just on, not started, and then the pump stops. Well, thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.
Once the engine is running, that pump will stay on. It turns itself off after about 2 seconds if no engine rpm is detected by the computer. How many times have you tried to start it? Try cycling the key on and off several times to get all the air out of the fuel lines from when you replaced the pump. If you've already done this, then check for voltage at the pump to make sure it is getting power.
Okay, the inertia switch checks out okay, but I'm not getting fuel. The pump runs, with the key ON it never turns off, but I'm not getting any fuel to the rails. Could the brand new pump just be faulty?
Disconnect the fuel line at the front of the fuel filter, if no fuel try without filter. Start the truck, you should get about a pint of fuel in 10 seconds. Do you have two fuel tanks? Would it be ok to add alittle fuel to the intake to see if it starts??? I'm having almost the same problem. If you do it should run for about 5 seconds. Just do it once. Then i guess test the fuel pressure maybe the new fuel pump blew out the fuel pressure regulator. I think that might of happened on mine, i'm still checking on mine. I'm not an expert, just my 2 cents
Okay folks, got it running. There was something in line that was blocking it up, going to replace the filter today. Truck is running a bit lean, but maybe the filter is just too old and clogged. Thanks for all the help it is appreciated!
