Check Engine light

My check engine light came on today on my way home from work? I was planning to leave on a 400 mi trip tomorrow? Should I try it or wait to Monday to get into the dealer? Any ideas on a easy fix?

Is the light on all continuously?

Anyway you can get to a/any shop to get the code read before your trip? Only takes a few minutes.. It'd be probably a little more of a 'stress free' trip if you knew what triggered the CEL, or may avoid trouble along the way.. Anyone in your area with a scanner or Predator?

No, I'm stock motor wise, I'm still concerned about voiding the warranty with any after-market devices. I do not know of anyone with scanner to read the codes other than my dealer?

Most decent independant shops have the capability of reading OBD II codes.. Doesn't have to be the dealer, although it would be warranty covered if done through Ford.. If you have a shop 'close' by maybe they can give you a 'quick' check before you leave.. Is the light on all the time, or has it gone off at this point? There's no way to get codes manually with OBD II.. The only way to know the DTC for sure is a scan.. There's always the 800 number should you have a problem..

Have a good trip....

Maybe call Autozone or one of your local auto parts store to see if they have a code reader for the OBD II ???

good luck...

Some have said something about the key on and off cycle with holding the ODOMETER button in and it displaying codes on the odometer ????
Or have I had too many margaritas tonight ???

EBP sensor.. Exhaust Back Pressure. Have you called the dealer back with your concerns? The shifts may soften up a bit with some mileage, as well as 'some' performance improvement.. But, if you think it has an abnormal driveability problem, take it back.. Document everything just in case you need the 'paper trail' for a complaint later..

Yes it was a EBP sensor... I called the dealer when I got home and they stated "the vehicle operates properly at this time"?????? I guess I will break down and buy a Predator...I was trying to hold off as long as I could since it ran so good! Do I really need guages & exhaust for the 65HP mode?????

I would at least do a muffler swap, or a cat back, but preferably a turbo back....

Did they actually drive it with you riding along for a comparison after your complaint?

It's 'recommended' at least an EGT gauge, but I ran mine with the Predator 65HP tune installed for months/1000's of miles in stock platform/no mods.. No problems.. AFTER installing the EGT gauge I haven't seen anything close to damaging temps.. As long as you don't tow heavy/high altitude it should be fine.. Running in 100HP tune, I would go with an exhaust as well to keep the EGT's lower as recommended..

Gauges are good insurance for protection though.. The Predator in 65HP tune will make a 'HUGE' difference in the performance, power, torque.. Worth every penny..

I drive around all the time with Predator set at 65HP and stock exhaust with no gauges. No problem. But I don't get too crazy with it. In reading their manual, if I was to go to 100HP, I would get an exhaust and pyrometer.

Yes, I do pull to about 4500 feet and down to the derert. I will order a Predator today and put on the gauges as a xmas present. I still miss my trucks power, shifting, and quiet ride....... Has anyone seen any gauges out there that do NOT have to be installed on the pillar? Any digitial gauges?

There are many styles/types of mountings, as well as gauge types including digital..

There are 'dash top' pods, as well as 'cubby' hole pods (kinda cool) that hold multipal gauges. And of course below dash panel gauge mounting.. Also, there is a column cover single pod available, but looks a little 'plastic' to me.. I made my own style column mount that is very funtional/clean and matchs the OEM equipment VERY well (my gallery).. A nice 'dual digital' gauge mounted in that location would be easily visable/funtional.. Do a search on the net for gauge pods and there's a ton of info./styles to veiw.. SPA DESIGN gauges makes a nice digital setup.. http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/ There are others, and of course the Edge/Attitude and Monitor.. Then when you see what you like, give Motorhaven a call to see if they can get what you need..
