I have the same code and wondered why it's not listed in the owners manual too. From all the reading I've done, our trucks have the 4R75 4 speed auto.
All the publications list this tranny as the new one for the 04's. I even downloaded the latest owner's manual in pdf form from Ford.com and it doesn't list the 4R75 in there either.
Thanks for the info, You must have come across this code somewhere for You to put a name to this tranny, I went to ford.com and found the updated manual, and your correct, it doesn't list this tranny, but also the 05 manual wasn't avaliable, I'm thinking that it might be listed for 05, Yeah and I'm still hoping that this is an 05 tranny, what's the build date on Your truck..
I was just at the dealers and when talking to the service manager about it, He said that the codes are only intended to match up with there profesional service books, and that he doesn't even go by that, He climbs under there and reads the tag, he also said it probably was a 4R100 or 75.. when I get a minute I'm going to crawl under there and look for whatever I can find..
hows that workshop manual, I had one for My dodge and it wasn't very complete in it's diagrams or instructions, it was okay, but I expected the profesional service manual for the 125$ plus it cost..

I think it is Ok -- although not so good as I had for an Explorer '98 or GMC Yukon '98.
It doesn't give much help/advice in basic things. What I was looking for was how to disassemble some thing like brakes for changing brake pads, torques for different nuts and screws, etc. I'm not an experienced mechanic so I need some help and guidance like this manual.
It is expensive especially when shipped to Switzerland. But everything is really expensive in this country -- I guess I'm getting "price blind" -- I come from Finland originally - where they have a more reasonable pricing
You might try alldata.com, I know that some garages pay a monthly fee for constantly updated manuals that I believe are state of the art,
I also believe they have a subsciption service for individuals that has the same profesional quality manuals, I have no idea what it costs, but I'm going to check into it because I believe My truck has the vibration issue that everyone has been talking about and they also have a profesional listing of all technical service bulletins, this way I can tell my dealer what's going on instead of them trying to cover it up,
You must really turn some heads, driving a 04 lariat screw over there

Go to Ebay and do a search on 2001-2005 Ford service manuals on DVD. I bought my set for $48. These are the actual service manuals used at the dealer. Ford sends out new DVD's to the dealers every month. They are updated with all the TSB's and recalls each month. The DVD's are for a date range of 2 months from the month they are published. All you have to do is set the date of your computer back to that month or earlier and they work great. I guess people who work at dealers sell them when they get their new disks each month. Oh, and these disks are for every Ford product made, not just our trucks.
BTW, I just checked my service manual and the B code is for the 4R75E transmission. The A code is for the 4R70E. These are the only 2 transmissions listed for the 2004 F-150.
what's going on is between 40 and 60 I can feel a mechanical vibration, I believe that this is setting up a resonance or reverberation in the cab when the windows are down, and You get what sounds like a subwoofer going off in the cab, also You can feel a vibration in the steering wheel and to a smaller effect in the seat.. I also get a simaler vibration just before stopping.
the truck has less than 700 miles on it and most of that was highway where this problem doesn't occur, so I'm still nailing it down when it does it and when it doesn't..
I was at the dealer and they were trying to say that it was wind buffeting, and that they were going to contact a problem resolving specialist or something like that, plus a couple of engineers.
so until I can figure out exactly what's going on, at least I've got some type of complaint registered, in my mind documentation is the key to resolution of most problems..
Well I have a 4.6 built in May 04 and it has transmission code A in the door jam. This isn't listed in the owners manual either but mine has to have the 4R70W which is supposed to be code U. It even tells you how to read it in the ownwers manual but has ALL the wrong codes. What gives?
