I have a 89 BII with 2.9 manual 5 spd 4X4. Have had the emissions tested 2nd cat is bad. We want to pull the cats all together but cannot figure a way to hook up to the flange where the 1st cat goes. Is there anyone who knows where we can get a flange that will mate up or should we just cut 2nd one off and run a pipe through the 1st one and on back?? If we need to punch a pipe through what size pipe do we need to get for that? Any help here would be much appreciated. Also for all those who have posted here that they have gotten a single system put on for around $150, please tell me where you got it done at, Midas says $500. Thanks
hey i got a bronco ii 2.9 with a cat back muffler system 3" in and (2) 2.25" out the pipe used would be the standard 2.25" to 2" (that is at the shop i went to) but you want daul, I would go with some shorties (headers) and go from there with cat then the pipe. but the flowmaster would sound a whole lot better, because went i am at the light it rumbles like a small block and equiped with K&N, boy the dog can run anyways man go ahead and see what you can do
for the flange problem , go ahead and cut a slice into the pipe (length way) so you can wedge it into the exhaust exit from where it is going and directly weld it and it would be a whole lot better that bolting it and you won't have as much leaks either if done right
Thanks folks for your replies,
I have the basic knowledge and have put on several exhaust systems but always from the cat back. To top it off I don't think I have ever seen a flange quite like this one. Since my "breaker bar" is away all but a day or two a week and it has been so hot. This is taking a while. My husband now says he is willing to break his knuckles to pull the Y off the manifold and put on a new Y this may not even be an issue, however I now how things get done. (When I do them)
I personally don't want to get into that as it looks like a bigger pain. ??Is there anything on one of these that isn't?? I can usually pull and put in a new exhaust in a nap time (2hrs), this will probrably take that long just to cut down. I can definately use details on any advise as to how to do it correctly. I'm alone on this so I'm counting on getting some good how toos from those in the know. It is so much better that shooting in the dark. PLEASE you are the experts I'm just in training. Please send some light my way.
Thanks
Dawn
Thanks for all your input, I'm not happy but it is a done deal. I could not get the tool I needed in time so I cut off everything about 2 inches past the 1st cat. Rammed a 2.5 in resonator pipe up in there, hooked up a cherry bomb, and it is done. Why am I not happy?? Before I could tell him different my husband shoved that pipe into the cat and now it won't come back out, and he did it before we could hollow out the cat. I have to get under there and drill a hole for a new O2 sensor anyways so I am giving thought to a post that said you can drill a hole and empty it out that way. By the morning they system will not be comming down again as I have to seal it tonight. Man is it loud, runs a lot better though Not quite loud enough to drown out the kids though . Thanks again for the imput and for the many suggestions contained in this site.
