TFI Screws
, I really hate it when he works on the vehicles. Anyways he lost one of the screws to the TFI. Does anyone know what size screws they are? The parts store doesn't seem to have anyone working there with half a brain because they don't know and won't find out. Replaceing the TFI has helped some but now it wants to idle between 1500-2000. Don't like backing off the clutch just to bring the idle down when I am stopped. Any clues? I've ridden a few Bronc's in my time and never got as big of a pain in the rear as this truck is turning out to be. But its paid for, I could really use some experienced help though figuring out how to make it run right. One other thing every once in a while I get a thumping from underneath when I hit a bump. Any clues there? Thanks for any help in advance.Think I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this site.

Again Thanks

Probably lots of suspension components that could cause this. The first that comes to my mind is the radius arm (sometimes called control arm) bushings. They are located where the redius arm attaches to the frame. To check them, grab the radius arm and see if it moves relative to the frame.
After doing that, i do believe the best way to set the idle is that of this...
1.) bring engine to full operating temperature
2.) disconnect the IAC at teh connector (engine may stall, which is ok)
3.) adjust throttle stop screw (you should be able to use your fingers to adjust once you remove the plastic guard over the throttle body so that engine will stay running, and idle around 650RPM
4.) Stop engine, disconnect battery for a while (10-15 minutes)
5.) Start engine, should idle around 850-900RPM after it idles for a few minutes and learns itself.
This all assuming so with the 2.9L. I'm 18, and just sold my 1988 with 180,000 miles. I drove it for 2 years and 30,000 miles, and i've never seen another run so well (5 speed like yours). I hope this helps, if you have any questions, post them, i'll make it a point to check
Gary
