Egt

A recent magazine article on diesel engines had a statement to the effect that on the '02 7.3L EGTs are monitored by the PCM and, if I understood correctly, limited by, (I am wondering), perhaps controlling fuel delivery. I'm interested in some feedback.

Not true that I am aware of. I hit my own EGT limit on occasions towing or on the high setting of my programmer and haven't had the computer do anything at all. With the new EDGE juice and attitude it will defuel me on overboost or high EGTs. I'd be interested in taking a look at the article though. I don't believe on even the new 6.0s that the computer checks EGT.

Grey2002 - I actually read that same thing somewhere too - can't remember where though....

Anyhow - no the stock setup does nothing to limit your EGT's and I'm pretty sure that it does not even know what they are. Somebody is a little mis-informed, and should not be writing for a magazine!

Unless there is a pyro probe in the exhaust system some place there is no way the PCM can monitor EGT

Exactly. It can only be an estimate based on boost readings from the MAP and the amount of fuel being injected. RPM, IAT and others are factors too. Bottom line= no pyro sensor-no true EGT reading.

egt pyro

Unless it's mounted in some obscure place there is no pyro. Makes perfect sense...no pyro, no way to control EGT. Catman, the article I referred to was in a publication from a parts wholesaler that did a two part special on diesels, I figure it's taboo to mention the name. Thanks for the inputs.
