I have a 85 f150 manual 4spd. The truck runs fine in first and second gears but when I get to third it dosen't want to pull. I can have the pedal to the floor and the thing just doesn't want to go any faster. It takes the longest for it to get to 55mph and lets not talk about 60-65mph. I was wanting to know what could be the problem and what can I do to get better throttle response?
The gap between 2nd and 3rd is terrible. Even if you shift at 3300, it still falls flat in 3rd.
The fix: The Mazda M5od tranny or a T5. I think a ZF has the same issue, as it has a low first, then it's geared like your 1-2-3 for it's 2-3-4 and 5th is over.
thanks for the input. I will change the wires and the plugs and filter seeing that I don't know when the last time they where change due to the fact that I just bought it form a guy about 2 months ago. If that doesn't work I will change the transmission seeing that I want to switch it in to a automatic.
Hey, that symptom describes what other people have referred to as a plugged exhaust (either muffler or cat). If you still have the original cat, it probably needs to be replaced anyway.
