Cool Rich Condtion

I have a 1997 F-350 that is running really rich. How do I fix a rich condition on my 460. I am getting about 3 to 5 miles per gallon. It's killing me on gas right now. Is this something that is regulated through the computer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Running the codes will give you a starting point. It could be about 10 things off the top of my head but the codes will save you a lot of time.

Ok, maybe a dumb question, but where is the diagnostic plug for this truck? I have looked and looked for one. My car has it under the dash. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

On mine, I'm leaning toward leaking injectors. All the symptoms seem to be pointing to that but I haven't tested the injectors yet.

I would start by checking fuel pressure.

My truck ran rich, black tail pipe, spit out raw fuel and check engine light
was not always on and when it was it just pointed to o2 sensor.

A new fuel regulator and she runs fine now.

I agree it sounds like the FPR but don't just start replacing stuff without pulling codes first. If you don't have any codes then I would check the fuel pressure and replace the FPR if necessary. When my FPR went bad it ran just like you're discribing but I never got a check engine light.
