new here- first diesel, performance advice

I just took delivery of a 04 Supercrew. I will be towing a small (for now) trailer that weighs 3000 lbs. Of course the dealer told me not to "chip " it due to warranty problems. I have used Hypertech Power Programmers in my last few gas rigs with great results. What does anyone recommend for my new rig ?. In stock form it has great power, and I dont want any factory problems, and I dont need to go a zillion MPH, but some better mileage/performance for not too much $$ would be nice. Thanks,

Tom

Tuner....What tuner

I went with the Predator, Superchips wasn't out yet when I purchased.. And my truck is stock other than the tuner and EGT gauge.. Without (or before) the gauge, with the HP tune removed, the dealer wouldn't know one was ever there for service/warranty.. But there is always 'some' risk.. I run in the 65HP range and the power/torque is nice!! Supposed to get 1-3MPG better, but haven't been able to control myself long enough to gauge it, or long enough trips to calculate.. You may want to due a search for Predator, Superchips, Edge ect. as they all have something to offer, as well as the owners that bought them..

I like the Edge/Attitude for its "shift-on-the-fly" power settings, digital display, low boost fueling and much more!

For the cost under 400, (call Motorhaven) get the Predator. I have and have not regretted it. It is the best single lowest cost upgrade you can get. Do a search on the forum for Predator. It has lot's of extras.

first, I chose a programmer... and will tell you why it was best in MY situation:
when I was ready back in Jan -
all modules had shift problems documented by all users... in multiple forums...

I also didn't want the physical mounting and demounting in the HOT engine compartment or wires, etc... running from the engine to the cab...

So I too chose the predator because of the ease of use and installation and updates...

it was the first one to get the 2 to 3 shifting right...

gives MORE than the advertised claims at the real wheels...not less like some...

gives the truck a completely different character - much more fun to drive

easily installed and uninstalled while sitting in the drivers seat...

easily updated via diablo sports web site if need be...
(no out of use and out of pocket money to ship back)

the best bang for the buck out there as far as $ per HP...

and better fuel mileage as well !

and call motorhaven for any unadvertised specials they may have and kit prices for your other "stuff"

The Superchips MicroTuner (SCMT) has worked well for me. I've tried it in all three settings, Tow Safe, Economy, and High Performance.

In Tow Safe mode I had significantly more power and improved driveability over stock and also had a 10% improvement in fuel mileage for the one trip so far that I've pulled the trailer using the SCMT.

Might have had some slight mileage improvement in the Economy setting, but since most of my driving is to and from work on a 4 mile comute it's hard to say.

In High Performance mode my 1/4 mile ET dropped from 16.0 s down to 14.33 s and speed went up from 84 to 93.5 MPH.

Shifting is firmer than stock but not harsh as some SCMT users have experienced. I actually have the truck set back to stock right now in preparation for bringing the truck in to have the rear main seal looked at (a common early 6.0 problem). I can hardly wait to reinstall it just for the shifting alone. The stock shifting is just plain slushy after using the SCMT for a while.
