302 or 351?

Im faced with a delimma. Its engine build-up time and i am wondering if i should stay with my oem 302 or go for a 351w? i want to stay with the small block and it is in a 73 f100 2wd short box. any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

You're at the perfect point to upgrade, you might as well go for the 351.

75-84 is the years to avoid according to some published books, when it comes to the 302 and 351w. Another point commonly mentioned, the weakest factory stock 351w block is stronger than the toughest factory stock 302 block (or at least that is what everyone likes to say, even ford performance books) and people push the 302's all the time without a hitch.

what about a mid to late 80s block? i found one at a local salvage yard with an AOD hooked to it for 150.00 for both. can i put a carb on it instead of efi?

Thats a very good price if its not junk. You would need a 351w carb distributor (duraspark II with coil and module), 351w carb intake and carb. Your saying its efi so you will need an electric fuel pump for carbs that operates around 6-7 psi...$50+/-, as there won't be a place for the mechanical pump to bolt too. Good luck
