interchangable trannys?
I have a 85' broncoII with a 2.8 and the tk-5 5speed manual tranny. I pulled the tranny the other night and found the imput shaft bearing is completely wiped out and I think there is more internal damage. But I have been calling all the bone yards for another TK-5 but no one has one, they all have the mitsu fm-145 5 speed tranny. My question is can i just drop in the mitsu and bolt it up to my borg-warner t-case and not need to modify driveshafts, likages, etc. Also I plow with this truck so is the mitsu up to the task or not?

It can work, but I think you'll end up shortening/lengthening driveshafts. I don't have data for the exact lengths, but I'm pretty sure the TK5 is a different length than the FM145 which is different from the FM146/A4LD/M5OD. So, if you are set on installing a used transmission, and you can't find another TK5, you're going to have to shorten/lengthen driveshafts. The Mitsu trannies also have input bearing issues. If you must go with a different model transmission, most people believe that the M5OD was the best manual transmission ever put in a Ranger based vehicle (RBV), so I would suggest finding one of those.
Other than the length issue (which effects driveshaft lengths and crossmember placement), though, there shouldn't be any issues with engine/t-case fitment, as long as you get a tranny from a 2.8/2.9/4.0.
