hi there, i just installed a new tach and now my instrument panel has dimmed a lot, but it only dims like this when the regular lights are on not just the parking lights
There is only so much wattage that can go through a circuit, if the circuit is designed for what its intended, and you add to that circuit, expect some degree of less performance when you add to it. To get it better, take the circuit off that the Tech is on and try another circuit that will get you better lighting. Its just like a house light bulb, you keep adding to the circuit till the lights get dimmer....why do you think those little light bulbs in the dash are small, low wattage? If you add a BIgger light bulb, everything gets dimmer...
You might try cleaning up all of the ground wires and even replacing the ground from the battery to the frame/engine.
Also might have the alternator and battery checked.
In general, as these trucks age, the electrical demand increase and the total resistance to current flow increases. Connectors should be checked as well. A little bit of corrosion can cause voltage drops throughout the system.
What brand of tach did you install? Stick with the good brands. The quality will pay for itself.
I installed one of those sunpro 8000 rpm ones with the white face, i know the 8000 is a little much for a 300, but it was what i could get. I'm planning on cleaning everything and maybe running off a different wire, what wires do you recomend? right now it's wired to the light bulb that lights up the wiper switch panel light
Find a circuit thats is on its on aux circuit, Ford has plently of em on the fuse box, or connect it to the light switch circuit, if you do it on a different circuit thats not a lighting circuit (not the dash circuit) you'll have to put an inline off an on switch on the Tech light circuit, otherwise, it will stay on always.
