I always said to myself, before I died I would buy a brand new vehicle. Two weeks ago I bought a 2004 Lariat scab, great ride. I waxed it 2 days after I bought it & the body was perfect. I know everywhere I have parked & it was always in a safe place, I thought. I went out to my truck last weekend & saw a ding on the driver side bed above the indentation at the 2 tone transition, right on that slight protruding body line that runs the length of the truck. I was sick. I have been looking for body side moldings to cover the ding & protect the rest of the truck, with no luck. I don't like the look of the ones for the 04 F-150 at Sportwing. I do want a paint to match set, with finished ends so accurate length is important. I don't know what would look good. Any ideas on moldings that would fit & look good. Please help. Thanks.<O</O
If you have the running bars or step rails, they help a lot.
Unfortunately, it never stops. I was passing by a place where someone were mowing grass on a tractor and they kicked up some stones. Didn't think much about it at that time, but got home and found about 20 chips in the paint. Needless to say, I have been looking for that guy again.
We recently had a hail storm up here and I got hail damage to my old Ford Contour. I am not a big fan of Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) but that is all my insurance would give me cash for ( wasnt going to fix due to age). I took it and decided to just get the largest 2 dents removed. I went to one of the PDR shops and they spend 1/2 hr and pulled out 3 dents (paid for 2) and I couldnt see any damage where they were. Cost: $40.
If you can find the right people, you can pay cash and have it taken out pretty easily I'd guess and for little money.
Sorry to hear about your damage... but one thing you should get use to is, its gonna happen. I was all paranoid about my first new car and then scratch here, dent here, crack there, I felt sick. After a while I just realized it wasn't worth getting mad about. Yeah it sucks but you'll drive yourself crazy. (BTW, if it's that bad, what about a dent repair place?) Anyway... about step bars, they do help, but in the cab area. A lot of people open their doors with disregard to the vehicle next to them. The step bars do help, doors to most cars hit the bar instead of the body. Hope this helps!
I second the PDR, had a dent with some paint off in the same spot you describe. Most likely was done on the dealer lot. Before closing on the Lariat I brought it to the dealers attention, dealer brought in a PDR mobile guy and now you can't even tell!
Thanks guys, I needed someplace to vent my frustrations, the wife just doesn’t understand. I keep telling myself, "Just enjoy the ride". My step bars couldn't stop this one. If I find good looking body side moldings I will post details & pics. To help ease the pain I’m ordering Borla catback rear exit exhaust, AirforceOne air intake, & Diablo Sport Predator tuner when available.

i have to agree i used to get mad when i found a ding or scratch but then i relized its only a car...I'm not saying its acceptable but some people just dont care for other people's belongings...
Ah their all scrap iron in 10 years anyway. The first ding is tough, but sometimes I think you are better off to just wack it with hammer before you even leave the dealers lot and get it over with..
Here where I live, about 25-30 years ago, there was a man who ran a trucking company. He would replace protions of his fleet every few years. As you know, trucks will get bumpers bent, along with dents and scratches. The first scratches and dents really tore him up.
After a few years of stressing about the first dents, he would line all of his new tractors up, get a ball peen hammer, and knock a round dent on the back of the sleeper on every one. He then told the drivers, there, the first dent is on it, now go drive.
That way he knew he put the first one there, and didn't worry so much about the rest.

Got ya beat. Exactly one week from the day I picked up my new truck I went back to the dealer to get my free tube of touch up. I stopped to fuel it up and must have let the door rest against the diesel pump handle at the next pump. When I get home I found 2 1" scratches on the driver's door. They're through the clear and into the primer. The only way to get them right is to shoot the whole panel. I'm not doing it. 3 layers of touch up and a little white compound and I called it good. First scratches done and over with. This is my first new vehicle also. I'm 40 and I know how you feel.
