no fire!

I have an 86 BII with a 2.9 thats not getting any fire. I changed coils and still nothing which now leads me to wiring. I have charge on my red wire going into the coil so i'm thinking the light colored blue/greenish wire. Can I straight wire this and where does it go? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

1) Make sure the negative to the coil is good.

2) Check for spark at plug #1. If none ...

3) Most likely the TFI module on the back of the distributor is bad. About $30 from Autozone.

With the engine off, wiggle the harness on the TFI module a bit and try to start it. Sometimes it is a bad harness, but, not very often.

What purpose does the green wire hold? I have both wires cut right past the coil. I can connect the red wire and the green wire will show a current on it coming out of the coil. But still no fire. Can I bypass anything and make the coil fire? I was told if the low pressure fuel pump wasn't connected it wouldn't fire. I was four-wheeling and somehow ripped the wiring harness loose from my tail lights and low pressure pump. All I use it for is to play so I'm not real worried about it if I can get by without them. Any suggestions?

thanks all
Joe

Hey Joe,

Hey, it can't be the wire harness to the fuel pump. It does not control the fire to the ingnition. If I was you, replace the harness and then check the realys located on the right side of the firewall(By battery behind air filter). There should be a black and green(maybe gray or brown.) The black or brown one controls the coil charge up by relaying a signal from the computer. Mine went out and my truck would crank like no other but would not start. I replace it(actually just splice the red and oragne wire together, i recommend the realy replacement or buying a 30 amp fuse kit and replacing it becuase fuses are cheap.) The wire harness probably grounded out though and toasted ur relays. They are $25 dollars for both at AutoZone.

Thanks for the advice AKA! I was going through the wires today and did find that the red wire led to the black relay. I rewired the ripped of portion of that wiring harness which in turn got my gauges and lights working. I was also checking for fire again, I had a plug in my coil wire, and when I would turn it over nothin but if I turned the switch to the off position befor the motor stoped turning it would fire for a split second and would always do this as long as I would turn the switch back.????? Any Ideas now? I will try splicing those wires at the relay and check again. Oh and I also changed the moduler on the side of distributer and it made no difference. Thanks for everyones help!

Joe
