I have an 84 BII 2.8 5spd. 4x4 that has a killer body I have a back up trans and many new parts on but the emesions/electronic controls on the engines are giving me fits I want to go to an msd box and swap the carb but to run an msd I need to find a dura spark type distributer plus an non-feed back carb, I'm curios to see what else ford put these engines in to try and find these old style parts. I want to give to 2.8 a good name.
A common swap is to the earlier 2.8 Pinto distributor with a Duraspark ignition. Getting rid of the TFI module and the rat's nest of vacuum hoses and tees will solve a lot of headaches and make the truck much more reliable.
2.8 (without TFI) with a 5 speed is pretty peppy and good on gas.
Are parts available to make a similar swap for a 2.9 engine. I have a good 1988 Bronco II that constantly has ignition problems. I'd like to switch to a 2 barrell carb, and an old fashioned distributor with points and condensor. The cost for the swap (even if parts are available) may make it more desireable to merely take the B II out in the pasture, set it on fire and let the remains rust into the ground!!!
