Ok pet shrinks, what does this mean?
My dog (female, 1 1/2 yr, pitbull mix) has become terrified of being in my room. She used to sleep on her dog pillow/bed in the corner of my room, she would sleep there all day if I let her. But within the last week, she won't step foot inside my room, the rest of the house is ok. She sits by the door untill I let her out and sleeps outside now. Nothing has been changed in my room, I actually looked under the bed and behind the dresser for something "scary". Just thought this was weird.

Dogs have a "sense" or sight so to speak, for things we humans can not see.
OR someone may have caught her in the room and disiplined her while you were out, now she asssociates the room with the discipline act, I dunno jmo

I'm not a pet shrink, but I do notice strange things such as that at times. My dog had a fight with a rat once (I guess) in our cabin in the river bottoms and refused to go into the cabin at all. The way I found out was once at the door he would whimper and look into the corner where the wood heater was sitting. I checked behind there and sure enough, there was a rat's nest (not a mouse) behind the kindling pile. The rat was huge. Once I got rid of the rat ol' Toby finally saw fit to darken the doorway.
Can you tell if she is looking at anything in particular?
Well I live alone, so no one else disiplined her in the house. My dad and brother come by but they play with her outside. The only thing I can think of is that I used a floor cleaner that had a pretty strong scent, but I used it all over the house and she's only afraid of being in my room.
It could have been something else that scared your dog. Maybe she was lying there sleeping and got startled awake by a bird flying into a closed window? It doesn't take much to scare a dog.
Getting close to Halloween ya know, may be a hant stirred up, kiddin.
The only time I ever watched our beloved passed chow lay her ears down and act scared , was when that mysterious unexplainable shadow crossed the hall in the house we moved out of over 7 years ago . Pay attention to details in the room, you may have moved something around in it that is unsettling to her.
PS Big Orn , a "fight" with a rat ???? Just how small of a dog do you have ?? There is no rat "fights" with the dogs I have had, they just bite and gulp, kiddin guy,
Sounds like something scared her pretty bad when she was in your room. At least, she associates something she doesn't like with it. My dog, a 3 year old sheltie, won't go into the bathroom if someone else is in there. Thats where he gets his baths. He'll go in to get a drink from the toilet but only if no one is in there.
That's interesting that you say that about the floor cleaner. I had just recently heard about a dog who died of liver damage. The cause was linked to the chemicals used in the swifer wet jet cleaner. Be careful what cleaners you use around your pets. That doesn't make sense though if you used it through out the house.

Yep.
You oughta seen the size of that rat - make a possum look bulimic!
I think it was eating some of that deer cocaine too, took 5 of us to subdue it....
Is this pet usually kept indoors most of the time or does she have romping room outside?
She's outside all day (fenced yard) while I'm at work. I let her in and out while I'm home, at night I like having her inside alseep instead of barking outside and waking me up. But now she won't come inside to sleep and is barking all morning. Not barking anymore than usual, I was just used to quiet because she would be inside asleep.
The Swiffer Wet-Jet thiing is just as unfounded as the Febreze thing. It's safe as long as you don't force-feed it to your pets!
Real issue: She was probably scared by something, or she doesn't like how it smells since you cleaned. Solutions are more important than pondering the cause at some point. If she's food motivated, try only feeding her in that corner of your room. She should conveniently forget what her issue was quickly. If she's not food motivated, try coaxing her into the corner of the room with treats and some special attention. She should come around within a week, 2 at absolute most, Then get her to your vet for an exam, there could be some other issue causing the fear-type response.

I didn't mean the cleaner had a stong "toxic" kind of scent, just a strong flower, jasmine, or whatever it was kind of scent. That dog must have been sniffing that stuff for a LONG time, or drinking it.
I don't know the the exact circumstances of the dog. There could be more to it than I know, but there was a link to the chemicals and the liver damage. I just thought I would post about it because it rang a bell with what I heard just recently. Any way, best of luck with your dog!
my dog likes baths... got him used to it when he was a puppy so now he doesn't mind. i agree your dog is probably scared of something that happened in that room.
get a pillow or something she's comfortable laying on and familiar with and bring that and the dog in the room.. she might only go as far as the door so just pet her and tell her its ok and all that. most dogs have more trust than fear so she'll probably go back in there
