Oil change mess
My wife owns a '96 Explorer with a V6. To save some $$, and possibly an engine, I decided to do oil changes myself. The Fram Sure drain device is great for draining the crankcase, but has anyone discovered a method to avoid the mess when changing the filter. As soon as the filter is backed off a few threads, oil left above the filter runs everywhere. I thought about punching a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain it prior to removal. Anyone have any comments or better ideas?

The easy thing know to do is to loosen it till the oil starts to run out and down the filter just let run into the pan,The filter will not fall off and when its done just finished taking it off.Use a rag because it is slick .
I get more oil on me taking the drain plug out.
