One of my 12"s is making some weird, almost rattlin noises if you listen to it closely... It still plays bass real good, so its not blown. Is it ruined? I have the 2 12's paralleled, could this cause problems? This happened also to one of my other subs that i had a while back, so could the amp be a problem?
How loud of a rattling noise is it? The screws in my speakers loosen up every once in awhile and make a slight rattling noise. Try tightening the screws. Also, the cardboard looking thing (ontop of the magnet) sometimes comes loose so if you can find a good glue you can glue it back on. Hope this helps.
Its not real loud, it just annoys me. I dont think its cuz im too close because the other would do the same. I hope it is something that just needs a little glue. Now that i think of it, it might be the dust cap like bill said. Thanks for replies guys.
Make sure your amp is grounded well. My sub was making a weird vibration/hum on occasion. I finally pulled the amp ground wire and cleaned up the connection to the frame and retightened it. Works like new.
Also take the sub out and inspect it. See if the tinsil leads are too loose. Check for loose screws that may be letting air out. It might be the voice coil slightly damaged.
