I would like to know if it is possible to change my tranny from a C6 to an automatic overdrive? I have a 1973 f250 with a 390 and its four wheel drive.
If it is possible is it a major project? Thanks for your help casey
I am not sure which engine class the 390 is in. But you could go with en E40d which is an overdrive but you would have to wire in the computer. I am sure it could be done but wouldn't be easy. Probably not cheap either. For what it would cost you could probably change it over to a 5spd manual or get a gearvendor or some other overdrive unit to go behind your c6. Used of course as a new one would run you 3 gran.
Casey, Don't think it will happen. Problem is with the bell. Your FE family engine has a round top bell, and most of the ODs have a small block bell. I think there are some adapters but all over $3,000.00 in cost.
Its an aftermarket OD gear box, that would go behind the tranny, where your transfercase adapter is now. This topic might still be on the first or second page of this forum, i remember posting a link to a good tech article about it not more than a week ago, it should be easy to find, AOD and C6 are in the title, and i believe it says swap in it somewhere too, like i said, page one or two of this forum.
