Ok have done a lot of work so far and am going to replace the O2 sensor as soon as I have time to drill a new hole for it. (Cause the old one in not going to come out) What is happening is this, when you stomp on the gas and sometimes during the driving range it will start to backfire into the air cleaner, and lose all power. I cut the exhaust off just after the 1st cat but did not have a chance to hollow it out. It does run better but not close enough to good to be happy with. When I was cutting the exhaust off I noticed that the O2 sensor had no wires. Have purchased a new o2 sensor, and plan on taking care of that. Question is, In the collective genius that exists on this board, could it just be the O2 sensor, or is the exhaust still clogged? Or is it probrobly something else?? I really don't mind working on it, I would just like to drive it once in a while.
Thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Sep-02 AT 10:39 AM (EST)]Reading earlier in the other posting you planned and did apply that CHERRY BOMB on your bronco, and it is a 5 spd so when you shift in between gears and down shift you will here a popping noise, almost like backfiring. I have the same thing on my flowmaster the popping noise in between gears it is normal. With the CHERRY BOMB it will sound loud of course and the 02 sensor pretty much regulates the fuel air ratio to my knowledge to get it off just spray some carb cleaner B-12 let it soak for a good while and wrench it off with all your might.
Thanks Beach Hopper,
My husband was home last night and used his might to get the o2 sensor replaced. I was going to drill another hole. Thats why he is my break bar. Luckily for me his exhaust fell off, no big surprise. (happened last time I let him put one on too. That was 2 exhaust systems ago) So I just came out from hollowing out the cat . Now I am convinced this was a problem. It is actually quiter with the crud blown out. I will not know until tomorrow if this is the end of the problems. Today even with the new o2 sensor it still wound up dying down to nothing. 10 mins at speed is about all the further I got before I was barely able to push 25. Got it home and parked it then climbed under after I got all the kids to sleep. Tomorrow just to be on the safe side I am going to get a coolant temp sensor and replace that. If that doesn't work look for me to be crying on here looking for assistance because I have done about all I can think of.
You guys on here are great.
THANKS bunches
Start with a cold engine, turn the key on. Do you hear the fuel pump? Check the fuel pressure to the fuel injectors. One easy thing to check is the fuel filter. It is not likely to be the problem, but is a good preventive maintenence step anyway. It sounds like you are running out of fuel. It's not clogged exhaust or you would hear the backfire there if at all.
