I don't know if you guys remember this but last spring I took these off of a 390 that blew a head gasket. I went to the junkyard last week and they were still is the shop where I had set them! I told the guys there that I was going to take them apart and magnaflux them, check them for warpage etc, and if I decide that I want them that I will come bring them the money and if not I will bring them back. I just have some questions with these heads.
1. Will the ports line up with my Performer RPM intake, I know that the intake holes are a lot smaller that the opening in the head.
2. These combustion chambers have a D-shape and I have been told that the sharp corners make an engine detonate easily??? I currently have 198 to 200 psi cranking pressure with my C-8AEH/D-2TEAA head combo.
3. I will cc the chambers on the C-1's to see how much bigger they are, and may run a steel shim head gasket to keep the compression up but then I am going to put in a bigger cam to so....
To see if the head ports will line up with the intake, use a gasket. Lay it on the intake, measure how far the metal is inside on all edges, then lay it on the head. You want the port on the intake manifold to be slightly smaller than the port on the head.
It does, I know that when I compared the opening of the intake manifold port to the opening of the intake runner in the head the one on the manifold was quite a bit smaller. I have also heard that opening up the intake manifold hole creates a pressure drop in (gasket matching)???
