My 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0l V-6 with 5 speed is only getting like 14.25 mpg. I would assume this is terrible being that i used to get 19mpg If anyone has any suggestions that would help they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
May I suggest a tune-up if you haven't already done this, maybe change the fuel filter and have the fuel injectors cleaned or use fuel injector cleaner with tectron in it seems to work well...Some times it's the simple things we overlook that give us the biggest headaches...Good Luck...hope this was of some help...You may have a sensor of some sort that could be causing a promblem also, Pulling codes from the computer may help...Once again Good Luck...
To the things Wayno listed also check your AIR FITER, a clogged up air filter will play havoc with fuel mileage.
I would also run this puppy by your favorite autoparts store, like Advance Auto, AutoZone, ect, for a no cost computer scan, to see if there is something in memory, that would point to something you should be paying particular attention to in your quest.
Has your ride had regular maintenance performed on time & is it up to date now????
I changed my fuel fliter, and air filter, plugs, plug wires, oil, and oil filter. Ive heard that its my o2 sensors for sure is what everybody is saying. Im gonna go ahead and change those so it will get decent gas mileage for the next person that drives it cause Im trading it in! Thanks guys Ill let yall know after the o2 sensors if I keep it long enough to notice a difference
14.25? My Dad's '94 4X4 4.0L gets 12 at best. He doesn't take real good care of it (12K oil change intervals, 83K on rear brakes!!), but he's no hot rodder or off roader either. I'm gonna do a complete tune-up on it for his birthday, hopefully it'll improve a bit.
Whoops....guess that means I'm real bad. I still have the orginal factory brakes on my 98...130000 miles. Plannin to do the fronts soon, starting to squeak. I do keep everything else up though.
