TTB passenger side axle tip?
I was doing some research on 8.8 and Dana 44 rebuilds last night since I'm thinking about regearing the front and possibly rebuilding the rear next spring. And I came upon an interesting tip about the passenger side inner axle shaft that is normally retained by a C clip, the guy said to leave the C clip out and when you reassemble put an old chevy valve spring in the female side of the slipjoint between the inner and outer axleshafts the spring pressure retains the shaft in the carrier splines, that way you can easily pull both shafts out to replace both u-joints instead of ignoring or fighting the inner joint. He said you may have to buzz off a coil or two on the spring to get the spring length to where you can just get the spindle nuts started on the studs then compress it with the nuts from there. Anybody know of a downside to this it sounded reasonable to me.
