First of all, let me say that this is a great site. It is addictive. I'm here every day and the family-type atmosphere is great.
Well my truck went to the body shop today, nice and early. Hopefully, they can fix it well enough, to the point that I can't tell the difference, before and after the "tree". From what they said, it will get a new roof and LS bed quarterpanel and they will R&I and adjust the driver's door. I asked them not to put the sun visor (Lund, for sale by the way) and the "4x4" decals back on, for a cleaner appearance. Also, the shop happens to have a brand new white F250 tailgate. I shall keep the "airgate", but the stock tailgate with a tonneau cover will keep the snow out.
This was my first ever "accident", so I'm a little leary about the repairs.
Peace.
good luck. just remember, if they call you asking you to approve anything, dont take any garbage from them. make them do it right the first time, and make sure they only use ford parts, no aftermarket stuff, unless its something you specify.
Most collision and frame shops do good work. The tolerances they must meet on repair work is usually tighter than the factory. You shouldnt be able to tell there was a repair if it is done properly. Make them fix it if you can tell, don't accept shoddy work (overspray, poorly aligned panels and doors, etc).
Thanks for the input. It's funny you mentioned about genuine Ford parts. I was there yesterday and asked to see the invoices for all the parts that will go in/on my truck. They were very polite and understanding and showed me the papers. All the parts were bought from Larry Roesch Ford in Elk Grove Village. Then I saw the actual parts with Ford stickers and stamped #s. I feel a little better now. As far as the quality of the repair, I was assured that it will be better than new. This particular shop did some work for me a few years back, custom painted amplifiers (for my then new 1994 F150 XL X-Cab, straight 6, auto). It was outstanding. I had entered IASCA competition for about 2 yrs. (I was young and silly once. It's funny, I now listen to AM talk radio and of course the blues. Thanks for the input all.
Peace.
