Question Choke question?

on my 78 400cui bronco there is a metal pipe that sccews into the choke thermostat body. where is it supposed to go to and what is its pupose? as mine has rotted away and i just left with the fitting and a small peice of rusty pipe. i have crimped the end over for now as it was sucking air in, is this correct? any help would be great as there arent many in the uk that i can compare it with.

It probably should route down to a fitting on the exhaust manifold, also a line from the carb upper air horn bottom should go down to the same area.
the idea is clean air is pulled from the carb down to the exhaust manifold, heated then up to the choke so it will operate.

my truck has had headers fitted and there is no fitting on them for a pipe. should i rig up a pipe too draw warm air through the choke or will be ok to leave blanked off?

The "heat riser" setup is designed to improve starting and choke operations is cold weather. If it doesn't get very cold where you are, its not as important however starting may become an issue on cold winter mornings as will your fuel mileage until the heat from the engine warms the choke. You could always swap to an electronic choke or a manual one if you don't want to rig anything to your headers.

do you want your choke to work the way it was designed ? if so you need to rig something up. if you dont want an automatic choke then switch to a manuel choke and it will always work.
