Well, I gave in and bought a 2004 xlt scab and traded my 2000 xlt reg cab in for it. I just wanted to know if the heads on this model have the improved sparkplugs with more threads, If you can let down the back of the rear seat and what the nylon strap in the middle of the top back near the window is for, how to just tilt the front seat backs forward without messing up my preset recline position (there isn't a **** to lift on the lower back near the door where it should be? ), and how to disable the door locks when you shift into drive!! I don't feel I need that level of super nuturing safeness. I won't get my owners manual for a few days and am kinda frustrated with these things.
the only thing you can move on the back seats is the bottom, they lift up, the back is secured to the back cab wall.
i believe the nylon strap on top of the back seats is for securing a car seat for the kiddies.
unless you have power seats you cannot tilt the whole seat forward/backward. the only adjustments that you have with the manual seats are slide forward/backward, lumbar and seat back recline.
i think you can disable auto door locking but i'm not sure how. you may need to wait for your manual to do that unless someone else here can lend a a hand.
Thanks guys. Looks like the only thing I will invest in is trying to disable the auto locks then. Just some FYI it is a scab xlt with everything but the 5.4 and 4X4. It is a great deal more fun to drive than my 2000 to me and the people that have all the problems with vibration and cheap interior must be perfectionists or paranoid because I love mine. The only reason I got the 4.6 is even though they have 30 less horsepower I consider them to be a better engine IMO. I never had one problem with my old one at all in 80,000 miles. Also, does the new 4.6 come with the deeper threaded heads for sparkplugs to prevent blowouts?

you shouldn't need to rotate the front seat in order to get in the back. There are door latches to open the REAR DOORS on your extended cab. : )
Yes, the black strap is for tethering child restraint seats.
Why wasn't your owner's manual in the truck? That's pretty strange...
Did you get bench or captains chair?

Well, I wasn't trying to rotate the seat but I was trying to get the bact to slant forward like when someone gets in a two door car. My old truck had 3 levers one that slid the whole seat forward and back on its tracks, one that adjusted how far the seat back reclines when you are sitting in it, and one that is at the lower rear of the seat that when lifted lets the seat back fold toward the seat bottom like a clamshell. You all know what I am talking about. Well the new 40-20-40 seat won't let the seat fold forward without messing up your preset recline position because it only has two levers to slide the whole seat toward the pedals and a recline lever. Also I bought the truck on Sunday and the manual and door remote was across the street at the service center that was closed and I can't get back for a few days.

That's what I mean. There's no need to DO that. You simply open the "suicide" rear doors to get into the back seat. That way, you don't have to change the angle of your driver seat or slide it forward or anything.
Hope you have your manual. There's LOTS of good reading in there... many things that the owner can do themselves by following the directions.

This has to be a joke. Surely his saleman showed him the doors in the back open and there's no need to move the seats at all?
THE BACK DOORS O-P-E-N??? They didn't in my old truck!
I'm still trying to figure out why my remote starter doesn't work, you know, the key thingy above the rear bumper??? Every time I turn it, it just falls out.
It wasn't a joke. I keep my seat all the way back because I'm tall. When I open the rear doors I still have to lean the seat back forward to lift the rear seatbottom up that I keep my rain jacket under for work. I don't need it everyday but when I do I have to either slide the whole seat forward or mess up my preset recline position. I just figured they should have the lever to make them fold all the way forward and then when you push them back they go right back to where they were. Didn't mean to step on you guys toes I just wondered if I was missing the lever. I also picked up my manual today and found out how to turn off the stupid auto locks when you shift into drive.

that doesn't sound right. you should have more than enough room to lift the back seat bottom, even if your seat is all the way back. now i am curious. i am gonna have to try that. if it is true, shame on those jci engineers, must of done the back on a monday morning.
Put the front seat all the way back on the tracks and give it a moderate recline. Now, you can lift the rear seat bottom without moving the front seat, but wouldn't it make more sense for the front seat to be able to fold forward? It really is small back there when the front seat is all the way back. The seats almost touch (look in my gallery). Just my 2 cents. I will say the rest of my new truck is designed almost flawlessly. I love the way the undercarrige looks. It is a LOT more user friendly than my 2000 and looks very easy to work on and get to the parts.
i don't have my seats back quite that far, and my incline is nowhere near that, just about vertical for me so i don't have problems with room in the back but i see what you're sayin', that sucks.
DonsFX4 - Believe me, I know of one adult male that bought a used F150 extended cab that couldn't figure out how his children exited the back seat without him getting out of his seat ... they showed him how the rear doors opened in their 2002 ... they learned from riding around in MINE.
gabz...HAH...that's funny stuff!! But at least you contributed to enlightening a whole new generation on the way things work by letting them crawl around yours!! Good job!
