No one get excited. I am just mulling things over. If/when the y-block in the flatbed gives up, what Ford engine will bolt up to the original 4 speed in my '56 F600? I want to keep the tranny with the pto to drive the dump. Any and all comments and suggestions are welcomed
The short answer would be any engine that used a T98 or T18 bellhousing from the factory.
But, what have you planned to do about motor mounts? The Y uses rear mounts that are attached to the bellhousing, so you may have a little more to consider than what bolts up to the transmission. My point is that you seem to want a simple swap, and if so, you will need to consider how you address more factors than just what bolts to the trans.
Thanks for the info. I am confident I can fab up some mounts. This is by no means a show truck, it is a working truck. Mounts don't need to be pretty just functional. I want the same tranny so I don't have to have driveshafts made/shortened for drive or pto. If I can leave everything from bellhousing back it will make things simpler.
