we have a little desk fan in the bedroom we turn on at night. for when it gets hot we have an A/C unit in the living room window. but i'm thinking of getting some of those fans that fit into the window like an A/C unit
In my new house I moved into on May 21 we don't have any ceiling fans! Now I know what is missing!
When I was younger I was at a friends house in his basement. He had his ceiling fan on and I got up from the couch and stretched. Let's just say my bloody knuckles hurt!
Funny this topic came up..
I am finishing my basement and have been looking at different heating options down there. Cooling is not that big a deal, but I had decided on at least 2 ceiling fans to keep the air circulating (1600 sq feet with just 2 rooms).
Well, I stumbled across something new that is due here at Home Depot in October. It is a ceiling fan with a heating unit. It is supposed to be more efficient that baseboard heaters. The only other thing I thought of was a pellet stove (which I may end up trying just for the heck of it). Check the link out below. If anyone has any experiences with it, I'd love to hear about it.
Budget...
I'd really check into the ROI on the heating element...
I'm guessing here, but it may spin the electric meter as fast as the fan
jd .. I am going to buy one and try it first and check the energy usage. The website says it will run on 14/2 wiring, so I am not expecting a lot of constant draw. The amps will remain pretty low too (hopefully >5). I ran 12/2 wire and put in a 20 amp circuit to suppurt it just to be safe.
I won't need a ton of heating down in the basement, mainly in the guest room I built. I may just get one of these and several regular fans to circulate the air around the main room. For 300 bucks it is not much more expensive than a regular fan. Worth a shot.
Would guess it could be best used for infrequent supplemental heat....

I'll bet its just a heat strip...
just recall when I had a three stage heat pump on my last house..
it worked as a straight heat pump until it got too cool for it...
then it would switch to gas heat if it got cooler...
then if that didn't keep it warm enough it would fire up some heat strips....
I could HEAR the electric meter spin up like my 6.0 turbo when those heat strips came on
