Pinging on acceleration
Hooked the trailer to tow the Polaris Ranger (4wd off road vehicle) and took off this morning headed to deer camp with the 84 F150 supercab running like a top. A/C freezing us....what a relief having A/C after not having it for so long. Anywho, stopped to fill 'er up near camp and upon leaving camp noticed that while accelerating I heard a pinging that I (we) didn't hear on the trip to deer camp. I do believe I just purchased my first tank of bad gas. The pinging stopped once cruise speed was reached, but we heard it every time I accelerated. Am I correct, bad gas....or anyone have an idea what else could cause this sound?

Just add some octane booster to it and that will tell you if its "bad" gas....(water in gas, low octane, old gas) If it cures it, it is correct about the bad gas, if it doesn't, well looks like a EGR problem.

Forgot to update y'all on this problem. Shortly after hearing this pinging I started losing power, rough idle, hard starting, etc. Mech found a broken spark plug.....problem solved, along with no more pinging.
