I have a 84 Bronco II with a 86 2.8. My problem is the thermostat will not open. Thermostat has been changed and is functioning fine. Wiull not open when installed in block.

If the thermostat will not open then it is NOT functioning fine. How do you know that it is not opening when you put it into the block?

Make sure it is not installed backwards and then look for the actual source of the cooling problem.... Radiator clogged up would be my first suspect... Bad lower radiator hose my second

It works when it is in 180 degree water. Because the lower radiator hose would never heat up. Never mind I have the problem fixed.

Thanks for the information. I had checked the radiator for blockages as well as making sure the thermostat was not in backwards. I found the problem for anyone else with this situation, it seems that the thermostat in an "84" 2.8 and the thermostat in an "86" 2.8 are in different places. On the "84" it is on the lower left side of the engine in the front engine cover, on the "86" it is in the water neck.
