Post Taking Off Auto Locking Hubs

I am currently in the proccess of changiing rotors and converting to manual locking hubs. My problem is I can't find the Hex Locknut tool anywhere to take off the weel bearing adjusting nut on my hubs. Does anybody know the right size? Ford told me they wernt positive but it might be a 2 3/8 in. thinwalled socket. Does this sound right?
Also having a loud chattering coming from my shifter when I accelerate hard, is this my clutch, throwout bearing, or something else? Has any one had this problem? BTW 86 B2 2.9, any help would be great!!

Taking Off Auto Locking Hubs

It is a 2 3/8 and you can find the thin wall version at most auto stores around $10.00. Also, be careful, there is a little locking key that must be removed. I recommend that you get a service manual for this area.

Taking Off Auto Locking Hubs

well i already trashed my auto hubs and went to warns. there are a few things to watch out for though. after removing the actual hub(peice on the end) you need to remove the c-clamp. be very careful, mine shot up and hit the ceiling and the other shot across the garage. then you pull basically eveything to the bearings. youll need a small magnet to get a "lock" out. it will be just before you get to the wheel bearings. after that install the conversion kit, you replace the c-clamp(again be careful) that should be it i might of missed a few small details, but the directions that came with the hubs should be able to expalin it to me. btw you might want to repack your bearings while your down there.
Tim

maybe next time i should read your problem more thouroughly(sp) before i get carried away.
