Thumbs down

Heh heh.... I just reported the company that I used to be a Team Manager for, here in town that was here for about three years, while it opened up numerous other call centers in lower wage states, provinces in Canada, India and Europe. I suspect that when it gets enough workers trained in the lowest paying areas, there will no longer be anything but the main office in the US. And at that, the mother corporation was actually bought by a Japanese corporation before I left them.

The trend of international outsourcing is the most terrifying aspect of modern think business. I have looked into this, professionally, over the last couple of months, and noted that a large amount of business in the US could easily be disrupted by terrorist intentions, simply by cutting the link, from head office, to outsourced department, in Poland, China, Eastern Europe, or other such insecure areas, where companies like to place critical departments, such as Payroll, Accounts receivable and payable. I was totally flabagasted to see a services check to me arrive from Poland, for some work I did for a Memphis based large company; further investigation showed they were proud of their outsourced payables department..

It would seem to be utter chaos, just sitting, and waiting to happen.

My wife is a customer service supervisor for a call center in one of if not the biggest health insurance company in the U.S.. It was the trend to send such call centers and other portions of the company to states with tax breaks, cheaper land, lower minimum wage and lower cost of living. Now it is all about going overseas. If this happens to my wife's company that would suck. She makes alot more $$ than I do. That and all the people it would destroy who can barely get by now.
