Howdy! I'm having this same KLUNK problem in my driveline. I've posted about it and gotten some very helpful info. Thanks everybody! But my mechanic is telling me the problem is worn our eye bushings on my leafs. I can buy this because the truck's got 143,000+ on it. He's quoting me a price around $450.00 (parts/labor) to replace the bushings and shackels. He can get a pair of NEW leafs with the eye bushings for $520.00 a pair + shackels+labor= $750.00. This sounded kinda high. I found a website ( http://www.espo.com/)that is selling a pair of new leafs w/ eye bushings for around $200.00 a pair. I don't know the specs yet, but they're leaf springs, it's not rocket science. With labor and shackels I'm looking at around $500.00 for new everything. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help with this!
KINDA high? Tell your mechanic to get off the crack, and that you will tell everyone in town that he is a theif. A main leaf with bushings costs about $90, and thats in Canada! Shackles from the Ford dealer is about $25 a piece Canadian. Buy the parts, do it yourself, and spend the extra money you saved on something else for the truck.
Ditto to MAtthewC's post. The 4" lift springs that I bought with my suspension lift only tipped the scales at $120. And they are longer and stronger than stock with polyurethane bushings.
I doubt you need new springs. Check this site out where I got my Tuff Country add a leafs ($50) , Ubolts ($30 a side) and Daystar poly bushings ($13 a side). Then you could add Daystar front spring spacers ($90) and have a nice 2 " lift for under $250. Nothing technical about the installation.
If elmotho was looking for aftermarket stuff that would be the solution, but I think that if he just wants cheap stock replacements then my original reccomendation would be his best option.
I live in Fredericton NB Canada. There is a place called City Springs. I usually go directly there because if a person goes to any garage for spring work or purchases the shop will get it from City Springs anyways. I save money that way. They have springs for semi's pickups cars, chariot, see-saws, toy bouncy horses...you name it.
