one of my friends car is really starting to die. the first problem im gonna asume the battery is at fault. every time she shuts off the car when its warm out it starts right back up an hour later. at night when its cool out she shuts it off and comes back hour later, dead as a door nail.
the other problem is sometimes she gets a really bad rotten egg smell from the exaust. im geussin a sticking injector, but im new to the efi thing so im not sure. if this is the case would some injector cleaner in the gas help?
one more thing. did the stock radios for the escort have a full time power line for the radio? her dad wired up her radio and it doesnt hold times or stations so i was gonna fix it for her. any help on any of these is greatly appreciated
chrono
I think the rotton smell from the exhaust is a bad catalytic converter. The radios usually have two power wires. One with power all the time for memory(time and radio stations). The other is powered when the key is in accesory position or run position.
thanks andy79 for the feedback. i also have one more question. her cigarette lighter doesnt work and i can find any fuse blown inside, are there more under the hood or somwhere?
thanks chrono
My old escort had it's cigarette litter on the same fuse as the radio's constant so there's a thought. Also the bad smell is most likely from the catalytic as prevously mentioned.
RE: Rotten eggs from the exhaust: Keep track of the kind of gas. High sulfur in the gas causes this. Shouldn't still be happening as they were supposed to take that out, but if you are buying el cheapo, you might still be getting it.
well now the rotten egg smell has gone away with a fill up. i think your right she got some el cheapo gas. still trying to figure out the cigarette lighter thing
