Destroke The 300

I was wondering how i would go about destroking the 300, if it is possible, the reason being is that i am lookin at using this engine for a swap into a car, and i need the extra rpms for a turbo. Also to replace this displacement lost, how much could I bore the engine, and what would the displacement be after the bore and destroke?

Sounds like a lot of work, it would probably be easier and cheaper to get a different engine made for what you are looking for.

You would end up with a 240 .040 over, or probably a 243 or so.

Yea, it's lots of work and expense....
And then you have the valve train.

And then I'd say you are probably going to be limited to 5000 or so due to the other limitations of the engine.

Have you heard of the 302 V8?

Just a suggestion......

dont do it!

that might be the worst idea in auto history next to welding your gas tank to fix a leak .1 the 300 redlines a little above 5 grand, which isnt ideal for a racing application, 2 the 300 probobly wont fit in a car, it might i dont know, 3 with all that work you'll be on welfare,4 it would be better if you dropped a 302 in there, lower the compression to about 7:1, then put a SUPERcharger on there and run tons and tons of boost with that you would eat toyotas and **** hondas. plus i'd imagine the 300 having a long stroke, wich also isnt good for horsepower

I was wondering how i would go about destroking the 300, if it is possible,
It's called a 240 . Stroke is 3.180.

the reason being is that i am lookin at using this engine for a swap into a car,
It's a bit long to fit in most cars. It'll go into a Torino, or an older LTD, (maybe a Jag), but why swap out a V8 for it?

and i need the extra rpms for a turbo.
You wont get all that many more revs out of it. The piston speed may be decreased with the shorter arm, but it still might spit out a rod, and the stock head just won't breathe up there. Lot$ and lot$ of prep involved to get the numbers and the longevity. Even more for a hi-boost application. Might be better to size the turbo(s) for max boost at, say, 4000 or so, and have a mill that will last. A common misconception is that you need to really wind a turbo motor to make acceptable power. This is simply not so...

Also to replace this displacement lost, how much could I bore the engine,
Older blocks you can likely go .060" without too much trouble (maybe a little more...), but you should have the block sonic-checked when punching it out over .030". You'll never replace the displacement lost. That's what the turbo is for!

and what would the displacement be after the bore and destroke?
240 (4" bore, 3.180" stroke):

4.020": 242

4.030": ~243

4.050": ~246 and pushing things a little

4.060": 247 and possible grenade...

Looking at all of this, you might be less in the hole with a normally-aspirated 351W. Less part$ to throw at 'er for desired power output, and it might fit a little better. I don't mean to sound discouraging---hey, if you have the money and the wherewithal to bite this off, by all means go for it! However, there are considerably more cost-effective methods available.
A low-boost, moderate RPM 300 might even be such a plan, but still, it's severe duty valve, copper reinforced head gasket, ARP rod and main bolts and head studs, forged piston, deck+head shaving, and balancing time. And a carb or EFI set up for the fuel demands of the turbo, and a boost timing retard. Et cetera. The list goes on...
